Welcome to my comfy corner of the inter web. Pull up a love seat, grab a latte and share some stories with old and new friends in Ric's Café.
Ric's Café (yeah, no accident, it's a Casablanca reference) is an offshoot of The Brooklyn Love (art) Salon, the monthly salon's I hosted in Brooklyn for several years. When I moved to Bielefeld, Germany in 2006, during my residency with Theaterwerkstatt Bethel, I continued hosting a monthly salon with the company and called it Ric's Café. Sadly, I lost the online blog of the salon when Xanga folded, with all of the pictures attached.
But I'm happy to announce that Ric's Café has reopened! I've revived the monthly salon in Berlin. We meet with a theme in mind and bring anything we want to share that is connected to theme. Although sometimes we just need a space to share something unrelated to the theme that we are developing. Right now I am working on writing two plays and it's useful to have a deadline every month where I can share some ideas.
Ric's Café is now online at Ric's Web Café.
Ric's Café was also the name of a live ongoing event that I created for Gallery 15 1/2 in Cologne. Inspired by Story Corps, the the intimate gallery was set up with a table, two chairs, fresh coffee, two menus and a tape recorder. A pair of guests would make a reservation and then come into the gallery to record and interview with each other using questions from the menu as inspiration.
Here are some of the interviews:
