Taking Flight, Making Tracks

I've been on a storytelling journey with my newest collaborator, John Polak, creating a piece for the La Jolla Athenaeum Music and Arts Library. Our theatre piece will premiere in January 2017 and tour the San Diego public schools, inviting young audiences to engage with two characters, Noah and Onda Fence, who are forced to flee their instrument repair shop and find refuge in a new land. Along the way, they become separated and on their individual paths, face three mighty obstacles. The instruments in their travel bags provide solace and the power to overcome each hurdle. Finally, they are reunited at the port of entry and must still pass through customs as their instruments are inspected and documented in order to settle in a new country. They walk together, with their music and stories, towards the next chapter.
A DJ stand upstage center throughout spinning an ambient soundscore and world music which showcases the instruments depicted in the story.
